St Mary’s Church, Arnold

For their wedding ceremony, Anna and Rich chose St Mary’s Church in Arnold, a beautiful historic church whose story stretches back almost a thousand years.

There is evidence of a church on this site before 1176, while the present building largely dates from the 14th century. Remarkably, the church’s earliest surviving parish records begin in 1544, with marriage records following just two years later in 1546 — meaning generations of couples have celebrated their marriages here for centuries.

Inside, the medieval character of St Mary’s can still be felt in its ancient stonework, arches and chancel. The church also contains a rare medieval Easter Sepulchre, one of only three surviving examples of its kind in Nottinghamshire.

The building has changed and been carefully restored over the centuries, including a major restoration in 1868–69. Yet despite the passage of time, St Mary’s has remained at the heart of the Arnold community.

And on this particular day, its long history became part of Anna and Rich’s own story. Surrounded by their families and friends, they exchanged their vows in a place where countless stories of love and family have unfolded before theirs.
